Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Katherine. I am a graduate of Trinity College in
Hartford, CT, where I studied fine arts with a focus in painting, and where I
minored in Japanese language. 初めまして! I am an Art + Art
Education Initial Certification track student at Teachers College.
I have helped teach in art
integrated classrooms in Hartford, CT, and I brought my own creative approach
as a lead teacher in an afterschool literacy program in Queens. Near the end of last year, we analyzed the
different approaches of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline,
through the novel, graphic novel, and the stop motion film.
Currently, I have a basic
understanding of some types of new media; I have been shadowing teaching
artists at the Children’s Museum of the Arts, where all sorts of modern
technology are explored in conjunction with traditional art. There I have worked specifically with I-Stop
Motion Animation, the coding software in Scratch, and a 3D printer
(briefly). I do know that students are
very receptive to new and creative approaches to media in the classroom; a
screen is not just a screen with the right lesson plan and support. I am very much looking forward this semester to
trying more media and challenging myself to confidently use these tools in the
classroom!
